Hilco Streambank has been retained by The Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company, Inc. (the “Company”) to market and sell its intellectual property and related assets (the “Assets”). The Company is currently operating as a Debtor under Chapter 11 in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York (the “Bankruptcy Court”).
The Company opened its first shop in 1859 on Vesey Street in NYC and in 1869 adopted the name The Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company® to commemorate the Transcontinental Railway.
As of September 2015 the Company operated 297 stores under its various banners throughout the Northeastern United States, and three e-commerce websites. It generated total gross sales of approximately $6.5, $5.8, and $5.5 billion in 2012, 2013, and 2014 respectively.
The Company is currently selling the A&P® supermarket banner along with its private label brands – Woodson & James®, Great Atlantic Seafood Market® and Hartford Reserve®.
SUMMARY OF ASSETS
Available assets include the A&P store banner, private label brands, and related assets - including: trademarks, websites, domain names, social media profiles and customer data.
On July 19, 2015, the Company and certain of its affiliates commenced voluntary chapter 11 cases in the Bankruptcy Court. Accordingly, the sale of the Assets will need to be authorized by the Bankruptcy Court pursuant to section 363 of the Bankruptcy Code.
