Vice President of Dispositions

 About Us…

Hilco Streambank is a preeminent intellectual property advisory firm. We specialize in the valuation and disposition of all forms of intangible assets, invest in intellectual property and operate a leading brokerage business focusing on IPv4 internet protocol addresses. Many of the deals we bring to market occur in the distressed space, through a bankruptcy, out of court restructuring, state court dissolution process or Article 9 foreclosure, and we have seen and expect substantial increased deal activity.

By way of example: when a retailer files for bankruptcy and announces it is going out of business, the company sells the assets in the stores (apparel, furniture, etc.). The retailer’s brand name, e-commerce platform, domain names and other intangible assets have value and can also be sold. Hilco Streambank serves as an agent that sells those intangible assets, whether because a company is going out of business or whether it simply seeks to divest itself of non-core assets. We develop processes to market these intangible assets, similar to the way in which investment banks run processes to market entire companies, but often on a much more compressed time frame and involving creatively run auction structures. We often also work alongside investment banks who are managing a sale process on behalf of a company, and bring expertise with respect to marketing intellectual property assets and potential deal structures to maximize the value of brand assets, ecommerce platforms and other intellectual property assets.

We Are Seeking…

We are seeking a vice president to assist in the sale processes we run when our clients want to dispose of intangible assets such as brands, social media profiles, patents and domains. The vice president will serve a key role, as our teams are small and work closely together. He or she will be given significant responsibility, including client exposure, deal structure development and will be expected to bring to the table an understanding of transaction structures and value-maximizing techniques and work with us to build upon that skill set. The ideal candidate will have been exposed to distressed and/or corporate transactions in his or her prior role.

More About the Role…

The vice president will support the team with all activities related to intangible asset sale processes, such as identifying potential targets which may have an interest in the particular assets we are marketing, drafting content for marketing collateral including teasers and investment memorandum, working with clients to assemble diligence materials, conducting outreach efforts, participating in auctions and assisting in transaction closings. The candidate should be able to work on multiple projects and transactions at a given time. The vice president will interface with clients and potential buyers of a client’s assets, so good interpersonal / phone skills are a must.

He or she will have a chance to lead engagements, oversee an analyst, and work with the senior vice president and executive vice presidents/CEO on a range of fast-paced deals. Last year, we closed more than dozen deals. The intellectual property assets we bring to market are diverse in

nature – from retail and consumer brands (Modell’s, Dressbarn, Earth Fare, Charming Charlie) to patents (for augmented reality glasses, robots and medical devices) to photography and image archives (Ebony and Jet photo archive) to domain names. The vice president will have an opportunity and be expected to bring an out-of-the-box way of thinking and can-do attitude to each engagement, coupled with a sense of process discipline to ensure the efficiency and efficacy of each process. Engagements are relatively short – from 4 to 8 weeks, on average – so the ability to take on new projects and diligently run with them is a must.
