Intellectual Property Acquisition Opportunity

Electric Fields

Donald McNaught as the Liquidator of Rocksevents Limited (“Electric Fields” or the “Company”) has appointed Hilco Streambank to actively seek interested parties with regard to the sale of the intellectual property assets (the “Assets”) of the Company, including the Electric Fields brand. Electric Fields was a UK music festival showcasing a wide range of genres.

Electric Fields was founded in 2014 as a weekend music festival held at Drumlanrig Castle in the South West of Scotland. The festival catered to a wide range of age groups, showcased several different genres of music and provided an all-round experience for festival-goers with a collection of attractions on offer during the course of the weekend.

During its active years, Electric Fields attracted a number of well-known artists including Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, James, LEFTFIELD, Frightened Rabbit, Dizzee Rascal, The Charlatans, and Primal Scream. The supporting slots offered a platform to up-and-coming musicians and more diverse genres as the festival prided itself on understanding the value of live musical talent.

The festival showcased high profile line-ups and offered a wide range of activities to attendees. The food market, known as The Pitt, featured many food stalls catering to intolerances and dietary choices, and the offering was tailored for families, with activities such as wildlife walks and children’s entertainment also available. Other features of the main festival arena included the real-ale area, comedic performances and fairground ride attractions.

Electric Fields grew from a two-day festival to a three-day festival during its lifespan due to popular demand. The festival was also nominated for Best Small Festival at the UK Festival Awards in 2016, 2017 and 2018.

Since the announcement of the Company’s insolvency, Electric Fields has received extensive press coverage, and many festival-goers have taken to social media to share their own stories of the festival and express their sadness at its closure. Electric Fields therefore represents a fantastic opportunity for a buyer to capitalise on the brand’s nostalgia and launch a comeback on the back of the widespread press coverage the brand has received as of late.

The Electric Fields brand is one of the most recognisable festival brands in the UK. As well as attracting a number of well-known artists to perform, the festival has a reputation for fostering emerging and local talent. The decision to balance popular artists with lesser-known performers has allowed the Electric Fields brand to generate significant press while still maintaining its heritage ‘cool’ factor.

Electric Fields has received recognition for its commitment to sustainability as it was one of the first UK festivals to sign up to the Association of Independent Festivals’ Drastic on Plastic campaign, which represented a commitment to banning single-use plastics by 2021. Research by Ticketmaster and Kantar found that the environmental impact of music festivals is festival goers’ number one concern, and so the association with sustainability means that the Electric Fields brand is uniquely positioned to capitalize on the growing popularity of sustainability, as well as consumers’ increasing demand for environmentally conscious events.

The sale of the Electric Fields brand is particularly relevant for a buyer seeking to enter into or grow in the UK festival market, but the brand is also applicable to the nightlife industry and live music events. In the right hands, Electric Fields has the potential to grow into an international brand with festivals or events in several countries.
