Background

Founded in 1947, Fred’s has been an integral part of the communities it served throughout the southeastern United States. The retailer, which operated 568 brick and mortar locations at the beginning of the 2019 fiscal year, generally served low-, middle- and fixed-income families located in small- to medium-sized towns. Fred’s offers frequently purchased items that address the everyday needs of its customers, including nationally recognized brands, proprietary Fred’s label products and a full range of value-priced selections. The brand’s customers tend to be value-oriented and budget-conscious, and often live in rural areas without easy access to large discount retailers. Many of those customers are members of the Fred’s Rewards Club Loyalty Program.

Fred’s launched the Rewards Club Loyalty Program in September 2018. Customers were also able to register their email address on the Fred’s website to obtain email offers and digital coupons.
