Background

WishCoUK Limited (“Wish.co.uk” or the “Company”) was founded in 2012 as a platform on which to sell quirky, extravagant experience days to adventurous customers. Customers were able to purchase vouchers for experience days, ranging from active experiences such as ‘Zombie Bootcamp’, to romantic getaways, such as the controversial ‘Luxury Mile High Club’. The Company has experienced significant growth since its incorporation. At the Company’s peak, Wish.co.uk was the #6 ranked site in the experience day sector by volume of backlinks, the key driver of Google rankings and SEO success. The backlink profile is a result of extensive PR work the Company has been carrying out since 2012. Management believe that a company would have to spend £600,000+ over a minimum of two years to build a similar backlink profile to that of Wish.co.uk.

The Company’s large-scale PR campaigns, worked on both in-house and in conjunction with third-party agencies, have generated extensive press coverage in 48 countries across 6 continents through a number of channels including newspapers, television and online. Wish.co.uk’s offerings have received reviews across numerous UK press outlets including The Guardian, The Sun and The Daily Telegraph, as well as in US publications such as the New York Post. The Company’s more controversial offerings, such as the ‘Luxury Mile High Club’ and ‘Romantic Break for Three’ attracted further widespread press coverage, generating significant traffic to the Wish.co.uk website. These products sparked debate on both radio and television, being debated on Nicky Campbell’s BBC Radio 5 show and US television shows. While these more controversial offerings sparked debate, the Company is perhaps best known for its ‘Zombie Experience’ which has been host to celebrity chef, Jamie Oliver, and was featured in the Christmas Special of UK reality TV show ‘The Only Way is Essex’. The Company received further coverage on television having provided prizes for some of the UK’s favourite game shows including ‘Tipping Point’ and ‘Crystal Maze’. This press coverage led to celebrities including Jamie Oliver, Simon Pegg and Stephen Fry sharing Wish.co.uk with their followers on social media.

Brand Affiliation

The Company has worked with numerous world-class brands such as Coca-Cola, Warner Brothers, Entertainment One, Discovery Chanel, Studio Chanel and ITV. Furthermore, the Brand was mass marketed by Coca-Cola, and advertised on over 10 million cans of Fanta and bus stop advertisements across the UK. This affiliation with popular brands has resulted in high customer confidence and a similar high spend. The Company’s average order value is high for the sector (£200+), with around2% of the Company’s falling in the £1,000 – £2,000 range.

Market Opportunity

Wish.co.uk is one of the UK’s most influential brands in the Experience Economy. The Experience Economy has seen growth at a rapid rate as consumers shift towards seeking once in a lifetime experiences as opposed to physical gifts. 2017 saw an acceleration in online traffic to Experience Gift Retailers—visits to the top 20 players in the UK grew by 12% to 64.6 million. Online activity and sales growth suggest that the Experience Economy will continue to rise. The Wish.co.uk brand is well positioned to take advantage of the continuing growth and provides an opportunity for a buyer to expand or enter the growing market.
