Hilco Streambank’s Role

Dots, as a debtor-in-possession in a chapter 11 case, retained Hilco Streambank to sell the intellectual property assets associated with the well-known Dots women’s retail fashion brand.

Hilco Streambank Canvassed the Marketplace

Dots was a leading retailer of value-priced women’s clothing, footwear and accessories, serving the junior, misses and plus-size markets for more than 25 years.  Prior to its chapter 11 filing, the brand operated approximately 400 locations in off mall and high traffic urban locations spanning 27 states in the East, Southeast and Midwest regions of the United States.  In addition to its retail locations, Dots ran an active and growing online e-commerce platform at dots.com.

Hilco Streambank was retained to sell the brand assets, customer database containing nearly 7 million customer records, and domain portfolio, including the premium domain name, dots.com.  We ran an extensive marketing process, contacting more than 180 prospective bidders, negotiating the terms of a stalking horse deal, and conducting an auction for the assets.

Hilco Streambank Closed the Deals

We strategically separated the Dots.com domain name from the remaining assets at the auction.  Following several rounds of bidding, the company sold substantially all of the intellectual property assets for $326,000, and the Dots.com domain name separately fetched $335,000.
